WDM USA launches webinar series

WDM USA has launched a new series of live webinars to help deliver safer roads and save lives.

The series, under the title “The Road Ahead” was originally devised for the International Safer Roads Conference. The sixth conference should have been held in the US earlier this year, but was cancelled because of the Covid 19 Pandemic.

The Road Ahead webinars will be introduced by WDM USA’s Ryland Potter and feature high profile guest speakers, who will be looking at some of the tools available to help diagnose and treat the traffic safety issues that contribute to the 30,000 plus fatalities annually on US roads.

America had been chosen as the location for the 2020 Safer Roads conference because US Road Deaths are unacceptably high and trending in the wrong direction: in addition to the 30,000+ deaths there are 4.6 million injuries annually in the U.S.​

During the pandemic there have been fewer road fatalities and air quality has improved – the webinar series will look at ways highway engineers and safety leaders can adapt to the ‘new normal’ to maintain those improvements.

The first guest, Robert Wunderlich from TTI, will be identifying the high potential for safety improvement, giving practical guidance on the way forward. He’ll also be examining the relationship between crashes and roadway characteristics and evaluating and optimizing safety in project design.
