UK Road deaths fall by 2%

There was a 2% fall in reported road deaths in 2019, according to the Department of Transport’s (DfT) provisional road casualty statistics report.
A total of 1,748 were killed, while overall in 2019 there were 153,213 casualties of all severities in reported incidents, 5% lower than the previous year and the lowest recorded level since 1979.
The report says there were 25,975 serious injuries and 125,592 slightly injured casualties in road traffic incidents reported to the police. Car occupants accounted for 43% of road deaths, pedestrians 26%, motorcyclists 19% and pedal cyclists 6%.
