WDM Completes Build of New Midi-SCRIM® Model

W.D.M. Limited has successfully completed manufacture of the first Midi-SCRIM®, the newest model in its fleet of surveying vehicles.

The Midi SCRIM® is a smaller, more efficient version of the revolutionary SCRIM® machine, designed to measure road surface friction, informing pavement management and maintenance programmes. SCRIM® has been pivotal in improving road safety globally for over 55 years, informing skid strategies with accurate, robust and repeatable data collection.

The new midi SCRIM® passed its IVA tests in April and is scheduled to start work surveying the roads this summer, alongside the company’s existing SCRIM® and mini-SCRIM® machines.

While the vehicle is not fully electric, it meets the latest Euro emissions standards, Euro 6, making it significantly cleaner and more efficient than earlier models. Crucially, it is fully compliant with all Low Emission Zones, reflecting WDM’s commitment to a more sustainable, future-ready fleet. To comply with new safety regulations the Midi-SCRIM® has a Blind Spot Information System (BSIS), which uses signals to warn the driver of road users in the blind spot, helping to prevent collisions with pedestrians and cyclists, which often lead to serious or fatal accidents.

The agile Midi-SCRIM® size means it can access smaller roads than the SCRIM®, with the additionally capability of operating seamlessly around urban roads, of all classifications. An increased water tank with a capacity of 3100 litres / 70km ensures it can be run as cost-effective as possible, with a wider range for continuous measurement than the mini SCRIM®.

As with all SCRIM® technology this sleek new model promises to measure reliable, repeatable and detailed friction data, and benefits include dynamic vertical load measurement, inertial GPS  when there is no access to satellite coverage, and forward facing video.
