SCRIM® Machine
The original and still the standard

Complete Visibility and Control of Your Highway Assets
Manufactured by WDM and trusted worldwide, the SCRIM® machine is the benchmark for measuring wet road skid resistance. Designed for network-scale surveys, it delivers continuous, accurate data to help highway authorities manage risk, prioritise resurfacing, and meet national safety standards.
Built and supported exclusively by W.D.M. Limited, SCRIM® meets BS 7941-1:2006 and is certified to AASHTO TP-143-21(2003) and CEN/TS 15901-6. It remains the most widely adopted system of its kind, setting the standard for road safety performance across the UK, Europe, Asia, and Australasia.
Built for accurate, repeatable friction data
- Continuous side-force measurement using a 20° angled test wheel
- Operates at 25–85 km/h, with target speeds of 50 or 80 km/h
- Up to 300 km of survey coverage per day
- Speed-corrected friction data processed onboard in real time
- Captures IRI, GPS, video, geometry, and texture in a single pass
- Equipped with dynamic vertical load and water flow control systems
- Water capacities range from 3,000-11,000 litres
- Complies with BS 7941-1:2006, AASHTO TP-143-21(2003) and CEN/TS 15901-6
Integrated performance: SCRIMTEX®
Every SCRIM® can be fitted with SCRIMTEX® – a macrotexture measurement enhancement that builds on SCRIM® friction capabilities.
Where SCRIM® delivers value
- Network-wide skid resistance monitoring
- Annual safety and compliance assessments
- Identifying high-risk sections at bends, approaches, and junctions
- Monitoring treatment effectiveness over time
- Supporting scheme justification and public safety reporting
