SCRIM® / SCRIMTEX

WDM® is the sole licensed manufacturer worldwide of the SCRIM® (Sideway-force Coefficient Routine Investigation Machine), working under license to the UK Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). The SCRIM® is manufactured in full compliance with the current British Standard BS 7941-1:2006. The SCRIM® helps reduce accident rates by measuring the wet skidding resistance of a road surface and is ideal for network skidding resistance surveys, with a daily survey capacity of 200 to 300 km’s depending ...

Deflectograph Surveys

Highway Authorities have used the Deflectograph for more than 30 years to indicate the strength of their asphalt roads By measuring the condition of all road layers, not just those that can be seen at the road surface, it’s possible to define the backlog and long term budget requirements needed to maintain the structural integrity of highway networks. The method of interpretation has been shown to give reliable estimates of the residual life of a flexible road and is equally applicable to pr...

Street Works Management

The WDM® Street Works Management System (SWMS) contains full ETON v5 compatibility for managing notices from all undertakers and interested highway authorities and a direct interface with the RMS to send notices for their Term Maintenance Contract.

SCRIM® Surveys

Helping to lower accident rates by identifying where there is a risk of wet-road skidding. Since the mid-70’s Highway Authorities have used the Sideway-force Coefficient Routine Investigation Machine (SCRIM®) method to indicate those lengths of road where the skid resistance is below investigatory levels* The standards are based on over 30 years of research and have been shown to correlate strongly with the excessive risk of wet road skidding accidents. Recent studies in England Scotland Wa...

Visual Condition Surveys

WDM® routinely undertake a wide range of visual condition surveys including: ukPMS Coarse Visual Inspection (CVI) WDM® is a major provider of CVI Surveys to Local Authorities. Its large team of fully certified and experienced surveyors use software and vehicles specifically designed to collect visual data, without the need for walked surveys. With digital mapping, data input via touch screen, real time data processing, and the collection rules and survey routes defined by VIM, WDM® provides...

RAV / SCANNER Surveys

Road Assessment Vehicles (RAVs) carry out high speed data acquisition and recording of surface conditions, including automatic recognition of surface cracking. This gives performance indicators to enable maintenance work to be prioritised and National Indicators to be calculated. WDM® has been undertaking high speed data acquisition surveys since the late 1980’s and has been using RAVs, which include the automatic measurement of cracking, since 2000. Over that period the Company has developed...

Deflectograph

Deflectograph measures the transient deflection of the road surface under the action of a rolling wheel at standard loading conditions to assess the structural condition of pavements. Deflectograph data is used together with a well established design procedure to estimate structural residual lives and where necessary to design overlay thicknesses to extend the structural life. Deflectograph is ideal for regular network deflection surveys and has a daily survey capacity of 15 to 20 kilometres...

TM2

The updated TM2 surface texture meter with the latest electronics is the result of an extensive in-house research and development programme by WDM® to provide all the functionality of a routine texture measurement instrument, coupled with extensive analysis tools. The TM2 is recognized as delivering the definitive macro texture measurement standard. The updated TM2 measures a broad swathe of the road profile transversely over a width of 100mm at very frequent intervals to build a detailed rec...

Environmental Landscape

Capable of Operating within an integrated WDM® Highways Management System or as a stand alone data management module. Environmental Landscape Manager (ELM) enables the management of environmental inventory items, trees, verges, planted areas etc. It provides a simple map interface for data collection / inspections, fully user customisable attributes, data tabs and pick lists and an integrated map interface for data collection & viewing. Like all WDM® modules, the ELM provides comprehensi...

Customer Services

The WDM® Customer Services System module has been designed to control front line customer contact, e.g. call centre operations. The system allows an enquiry or complaint to be recorded and generates the required actions to ensure that enquiry receives a prompt response. An integrated Security Manager ensures that users have the exact privileges required to fulfil their role in the process.

Roads to Success

Print

The Daily Telegraph Business Club has commissioned an independent film profile of W.D.M. Limited, its approach as a company, how it’s evolved and developed and the factors behind its success. From its beginnings more than five decades ago W.D.M. Limited has focused its attention on listening closely and responding to the needs of its customers. It’s a simple formula, but one that is all too often overlooked as companies evolve and expand. Today the business specialises in designing equipment to monitor highways and pavements and to assess their maintenance needs.

W.D.M. Limited is widely recognised as a leader in its sector, providing services to most UK local authorities, and has reached this position by working closely with its clients to provide equipment and services that are genuinely invaluable. The Daily Telegraph film charts the company’s development and explains how it is working hard to develop the same close relationships with road engineers across the globe. Click here to view.

4th Safer Roads Conference 2014

Print

Planning is underway for the 4th International Safer Roads Conference, which will take place in the UK in May 2014 with the overriding theme that ‘saving lives through safer roads doesn’t happen by accident’. Delegates attending the 2011 conference in Queensland, Australia, left with aspirations to continue their work as life savers and contribute to saving millions of lives by seeking engineering solutions to the road war.

The third conference was the first in the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety, launched in May 2011, which emphasises an aspect not normally included in meetings on road safety - the road surface. The 4th Conference will continue the Decade of Action initiative by encouraging the building of partnerships, the sharing of data and information and the development of technical capacity. For further information and to view papers from the first three conferences visit the 2014 conference website www.saferroads.org.uk

The updated TM2 measures a broad swathe of the road profile transversely over a width of 100mm at very frequent intervals to build a detailed record of the surface, with its average texture depth, and delivers repeatable and consistent results.

It is widely recognised that pavement texture is an extremely important factor in the control of surface friction and subsequent road safety. It is also an important parameter for the determination of factors such as noise emission from vehicle tyres.

Paradise on the Gold Coast

A Queensland based charity, which helps children come to terms with grief, loss and illness, was presented with two 32” televisions by W.D.M. Limited.

The Company, which was in Australia to attend the 3rd Surface Friction Conference, had bought the monitors for its exhibition stand and wanted to donate them to an organisation in the local community. The TV’s were handed over by W.D.M. Limited director, Dr. Chris Kennedy (right), to one of the founders of Paradise Kids, Rev. Dr. Ian Mavor.

Paradise Kids, which was started in 1996, provides support and counselling services to nearly 300 children each year at bases in Arundel and Brisbane and also offers holiday accommodation on the Gold Coast to families with sick children.
