The development of this machine for the Transport and Road Research Laboratory proved a watershed in the subsequent development of the Company. Since 1972, the Company’s Research and Development Department has used high-technology, multi-tasking, multiprocessor systems to design equipment for the monitoring of highway pavements and for assessing maintenance needs. During the 1970’s and 1980’s, further expansion of the Company's research and development and manufacturing base took place. The 1970’s saw the development of a Survey Services Department which used the Company’s equipment to provide high quality routine monitoring surveys. Additional expertise was developed in manual inventory, condition and safety surveys using hand-held computers. During the 1980’s and 1990’s, the Company introduced a Consultancy Service to provide a complete highway maintenance management service for clients both in the United Kingdom and overseas. The 1990's and 2000’s has seen further emphasis placed on the development of the international role of the Company and the further expansion of the Computer Services Department to include the provision of comprehensive computerised highway maintenance and integrated asset management systems.
